How to Read Your Electricity Bill and Slash It with Solar
Your electricity bill holds the key to how much solar can save you. Once you understand it, the decision becomes obvious.
Look for these on your bill:
• Units consumed (kWh) — how much electricity you used this month. It is the single most important number for sizing solar.
• Tariff slabs — in Pakistan, the more units you use, the higher the per-unit rate. Heavy users pay a much higher rate on their top units, which is exactly what solar wipes out first.
• Fixed charges and taxes — these add up, and net metering can reduce your billed units enough to bring them down too.
Here is why slabs matter: if you use a lot of units, your last and most expensive units might cost nearly double the cheapest ones. Solar removes those costly top units first, so your savings are bigger than a simple average suggests.
A quick way to estimate: note your average monthly units, and a correctly sized solar system can offset most or all of them. With net metering, the extra daytime units you do not use are sent back to the grid and credited.
