Solar Tube Wells: What Size System for Your Motor

Solar tube wells are one of the smartest investments for farmers — no diesel bills, reliable daytime pumping, and free energy from the sun. But the system must be sized correctly for your motor, or it will underperform. The key factor is your motor horsepower (HP): • 1-2 HP motor: roughly a 1.5-3 kW solar system. • 3-5 HP motor: roughly a 4-6 kW system. • 7.5-10 HP motor: roughly an 8-12 kW system. (These are general guides — exact size depends on head, water table and daily pumping hours.) A few things to consider before buying: • Solar pump inverter or VFD — drives your existing AC motor directly from solar, with no batteries needed for daytime pumping. • Water needs — more pumping hours or a deeper water table needs more panels. • Genuine A-grade panels — fields are harsh and cheap panels fail fast, while genuine panels last 25+ years. • Proper mounting — structures must handle wind and heat in open fields. The beauty of solar tube wells is that they pump most when you need it most — in the hot, sunny months. Once installed, your running cost is basically zero. Not sure what size you need? Tell us your motor HP and pumping needs, and we will size and install the right system for your land.
