Solar Panel Maintenance: Simple Steps to Keep Peak Output
One of the best things about solar is how little maintenance it needs. But a few simple habits keep your system producing at its peak for 25+ years.
Your easy maintenance checklist:
• Clean the panels — dust, bird droppings and pollen block sunlight. In dusty areas, a gentle rinse every few weeks keeps output high; early morning is best.
• Check for shading — trees grow and new construction appears, so make sure nothing new is shading your panels.
• Watch your production — if your app or bill shows a sudden drop, something needs attention.
• Inspect wiring and mounting once a year — look for loose connections, rust or damage, ideally with a technician.
• Keep the inverter ventilated — do not block its vents, and keep it out of direct heat.
• Batteries — keep them cool and do not fully drain them; this alone adds years of life.
That is really it. No fuel, no moving parts, very little to go wrong. Most issues come from dirt, shading or a poor original installation — not the panels themselves.
