Net Metering or Battery Backup — Which Is Right for You?

Two ways to get more value from solar: net metering and battery backup. They solve different problems — and many homes benefit from both. Net metering (on-grid): • Sends your extra daytime units back to the grid for credit. • Cuts your bill to almost zero over the month. • Cheapest option, best payback. • BUT gives no backup — during load-shedding the system shuts off for safety. Battery backup (hybrid): • Stores solar energy to run your home during outages. • Keeps essentials, or the whole home, powered through load-shedding. • Costs more because of the battery. • Slightly longer payback, but you get uninterrupted power. How to decide: • Mainly want a lower bill and have a decent grid? Net metering. • Is load-shedding a daily problem? Add battery backup (hybrid). • Want the best of both? A hybrid system with net metering does both — save on bills AND stay powered during outages. This is the most popular choice for Pakistani homes. There is no single right answer — only what fits your situation and budget. Tell us your priorities and we will recommend the right balance.
